The Scenic Rail Pass is an easy to use, great value pass allowing you to travel around New Zealand on the Tranz Scenic rail network at your own pace. The pass is designed for independent travellers who want to experience a rail vacation or get the best out of their holidays to New Zealand and experience the true beauty and benefits of train travel.
You can choose your own route, stop when you like, and travel as many times as you wish within the validity of this flexible pass - hop on and off our tourist trains where and when you wish. You can travel with ease, with two 7 day options available.

From the TranzCostal to the award winning TranzAlpine (considered one of the great scenic railway journeys of the world), your train is sleek, comfortable, and relaxing. All Tranz Scenic trains include an open air viewing area.
Our carriages are carpeted, centrally heated and air-conditioned, so you can sit back and enjoy the view from your panoramic window. All trains are licensed and include a buffet carriage where you can purchase a wide selection of light meals and snacks.

The train may depart intermediate stations earlier if all booked passengers are onboard. Passengers are advised to be at all stations at least 20 minutes before the time shown.
The Overlander train will operate off peak and on peak using the following timetables:
OFF PEAL TIMETABLE: Operates 3 days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) from Friday 7 May to Sunday 27 June and from Friday 23 July to Sunday 19 September and from Friday 6 May to Sunday 25 September.
PEAK TIMETABLE: Operates 7 days (Monday to Sunday) from Friday 25 Septemberto Sunday 2 May and from Friday 2 July to Sunday 18 Julyand from Friday 24 September to Sunday 1 May excluding Christmas Day.
