Kiwi

Back

New Zealand’s national icon is a biological oddity. It’s flightless, nocturnal and lays an egg that’s six times bigger than normal. While most birds depend on sight, the kiwi is one of the few birds in the world with a highly developed sense of smell. At night you can hear them sniffing around for food, just like a mammal.
